Division I Finals
No. 2 North Salinas (24-2) vs. No. 1 Gunn (10-7) at Independence High, San Jose, 6 p.m.
It's not a flashy record like North Salinas'.
Don't be misled.
Gunn is the top seed for a reason. And it is the defending Division I champion.
The Titans are playing their best basketball of the season, having rattled off four straight wins to return to the finals.
Gunn only played three non-league games this year.
In the finals for the first time since 2010, North Salinas has rattled off 18 straight wins. Its last loss was on Dec. 27 to North Coast Section power Pittsburg.
With no seniors on the roster, the Vikings have used the phrase "we" to describe leadership.
A concern I would have for North Salinas is defending the Titans' size. Two players stand 6-foot-1 or taller, while two others hover around six feet.
Yet, most of Gunn's scoring punch comes from guards Camille Steger and Zoe Zwerling, who are averaging a combined 23 points a game.
Sophomore Jordyn Enos was the best player on the floor in North Salinas' win over Palo Alto on Wednesday with 15 points and eight steals.
The Vikings need to use their quickness on Gunn with Alyssa Springs and Monae Hobson going to the basket. And they have to take better care of the ball.
