You only need nine to field a team.
And that's all the Lobos have.
Right now it's enough as MPC has erased an 0-2 Coast Conference start with three straight wins to climb into a tie for first with three other teams.
It doesn't hurt having the reigning conference Most Valuable Player in the lineup in Beverly Miller.
The sophomore his chasing the triple crown for the Lobos, leading the team in homers (2) and runs batted in (15), and is second in hitting (.459) to North Salinas High grad Danielle Nieto's .585.
Miller is also the ace in the circle for MPC (8-4 overall) with 77 strikeouts in 76 innings of work, compiling a 1.84 earned run average.
All nine starters have driven in at least one run, including Rachel DiMaggio (10) and Faith Opolskis (11).
