It went virtually unnoticed because Nick Lombardi didn't win.
Yet, the Carmel sophomore put his name among the elite jumpers in the state when he sailed 6-feet-6 in the high jump last weekend.
What made the mark astonishing is Lombardi set a personal best by six inches.
That's like dropping a full second in the 100 meters.
Simply put, it seldom happens.
Remember this is a sophomore still learning how to high jump.
Meanwhile Lombardi has put his name among the elite high jumpers in the state as the mark is the second best by a sophomore.
