Seaside-Monterey football

Friday's game
Seaside (4-4) at Monterey (6-2) at MPC, 7:30 p.m.
It's more than just the Battle of the Bay.
Monterey is still clinging to hopes of gathering a share of the MBL's Gabilan Division title.
Seaside, meanwhile, needs to win one of its final two regular season games to get into the playoffs.
Can the Spartans overcome the emotions of a heartbreaking loss last week in time to handle the emotions of  playing their biggest rival?
Monterey is playing its best football of the season, having rattled off four straight wins behind a stout defense anchored by Brandon Finona.
Seaside has been a mystery all season. Last week it looked horrific in the first half, but unstoppable in the second half until the final minute when mistakes cost them the game on the final play.
The Spartans have all but abandoned the running game, unless the quarterback is running by design. Do not wait until the second half to get receiver Ronnie Turner involved in the offense.
The Toreadores are forcing teams to think twice about putting nine in the box with an aerial attack led by sophomore quarterback Carter Aldrete.
