Wednesday's game
CCS Division IV playoffs
No. 8 Notre Dame-Belmont (18-12) at No. 9 King City (24-5), 7 p.m.
These two teams have a playoff history, having met three years ago in the Division IV quarterfinals, with Notre Dame prevailing in four games.
The Mustangs have been swept in their last two postseason appearances, but have won their last two first round playoff matches in King City.
The Tigers were winless in the West Catholic Athletic League this fall, but 18-6 outside the league. In fact, every team in the WCAL made the playoffs.
Big surprise there.
Zeni Silva has been the focal point of opposing teams on the outside for the Mustangs, while 6-foot middle blocker Allyson Hughes has given setter Samantha Howard another target.
King City is one of only two county teams to ever compete in the state championships, reaching the Division II finals in 1990.
