Volleyball notes

Two things that stand out in the first two weeks of the season include the performance of Monterey outside hitter Sasha Krnic and the continued improvement of Alvarez.
With a career high 33 kills earlier this month, Krnic has 101 kills in nine matches -- seven of which went just three games.
Behind setter Geneve Hernandez, Alvarez has beaten two teams in the last six days that it had never  defeated before in Seaside and North Salinas.
A 1-6 record at the Merced Tournament earlier this month normally isn't a confidence builder. But that one win sparked the Eagles.
Ironically, Alvarez opens league play at Monterey on Tuesday.
