Stevenson (18-9) vs. Pacific Grove (29-0)
Tuesday, 4 p.m. at San Jose Municipal Stadium
Division III semifinals
The two Mission Trail Athletic League rivals are meeting for the fourth time this year with Pacific Grove having shut them out in the last two meetings.
Then again the Breakers pitching staff, anchored by Chris Clements and Conyal Cody, has been filthy, having not allowed a run in their last six games or 38 innings of work.
Stevenson has caught fire at the right time with five straight wins. In fact, its last setback was a 2-0 loss to Pacific Grove.
Galen Manhard and Angelo Martinez both threw gems in the Pirates upsets of No. 3 seed St. Francis Catholic and No. 6 seed Scotts Valley.
Paul Edwards has come up big in the postseason for Stevenson with three RBI while Drew Miller had two hits, two runs batted in and three stolen bases last Saturday.
Manhard will likely line up on the bump against Clements, who is 13-0 this year.
The old cliche is it's tough to beat a team three times in a season. How about four?
