MPC softball

The Lobos are facing one of the hottest teams in the state on Saturday when they visit Sierra (27-10), who ran off seven straight wins before falling in the Big 8 Conference title game to Sacramento.
Sierra hit .370 as a team this year, winning 17 of its final 21 games. Two of its setbacks, though, did come at home.
While the Lobos stumbled to a fourth place finish in the Coast Conference, they did go 17-3 outside the conference.
Conference Most Valuable Player Megan Scherer hit .435 while driving in 50 runs. Brittany Enny hit .324 for the Lobos.
Pitching carried MPC throughout the season as aces Clarrisa Cortez and Beverly Miller took turns shutting down teams.
Miller won 14 games and posted a 1.15 earned run average with 118 strikeouts in 133 innings. Cortez, a Monterey High grad, finished with a 1.45 ERA and 107 strikeouts in 119 innings.
