CSUMB athletics

Promotions are great.
 And in the case of former Otters women's basketball coach Renee Jimenez and outgoing athletic director Vince Otoupal, both were well deserved.
 But why couldn't they have come from within the Otter family?
 Granted Otoupla is moving to a Division I program, where he will be the athletic director at Utah Valley University.
 And Jimenez -- arguably the most successful coach at CSUMB -- had a desire to be closer to home, accepting the women's head coaching job at rival CSU-San Bernardino.
 Jimenez and Otoupal were two prominent figures in the sports department at CSUMB. These are big losses.
 San Bernardino and Orem, Utah aren't exactly destinations of choices.
 Then again, a promotion and a pay raise, coupled with the cost of living on the Monterey Peninsula  probably made it difficult to say no.
