Track and field trials

League team titles won't be decided until Friday in the Gabilan and Pacific Divisions.
But you will get an idea of what lies ahead today when both leagues host their trial meets.
There's always a surprise in the trials, where someone falters in the field or false starts, or someone rises from the aches and becomes a factor. Call it peaking at the right time.
 The key for the elite athletes is to just get through the meet.
 At least two marque athletes -- one of which was a state qualifier last year, are nursing hamstring injuries.
 Seasons are in the balance for a lot of athletes. If you don't qualify, your season is over.
