If there is a threat to Santa Catalina's run of 29 straight MTAL wins, it comes today when it visits hurler Brittany File and Carmel.
Whether it's a combination of the defending CCS Division III champions coming back to the pack, or the MTAL getting stronger as a whole, wins have not come as easily for Santa Catalina this spring.
It had to rally to beat King City and held off Pacific Grove last Tuesday. Now Santa Catalina faces arguably the best pitcher in the county in File, who has 148 strikeouts and two no-hitters.
The Cougars have been battle tested, using late inning dramatics to beat Salinas and North Salinas in the preseason. They are 3-0 in one-run games and are 16-2 overall.
Carmel has dropped its last five games to Santa Catalina - having scored just two runs in those games.
