A common opponent is the Academy of Arts, whom the Otters dismantled 79-63 on Dec. 5 -- and Western Washington disposed of 70-59 last Saturday.
 Ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation, Western Washington is one of the highest scoring Division II teams in the nation at 71.5 points a game, while the Otters are among the best defensive teams.
 CSUMB does not want to engage in a shootout with the 26-3 Vikings.
 The Otters have never gotten past the second round of the NCAA Division II tournament.
