San Benito-Salinas football

CCS Division I semifinals
San Benito (6-5) at Salinas (7-4), Friday, 7 p.m.
It's tough to beat a team twice in the same season. Earlier this year, Salinas overcame a 6-0 halftime deficit with 26 unanswered points in the second half.
 But that was in Hollister.
Salinas hasn't beaten San Benito at home since 2005.
The last time these teams faced each other in the playoffs in the 2009 CCS Division I semifinals, the Balers rallied from a 13-0 halftime deficit to pull out a 14-13 win.
Salinas sports the same identical 7-4 record it has compiled in each of its last four CCS Division I semifinal appearances.
The Cowboys played with a chip on their shoulder in last week's 49-0 win over Fremont -- a team that had scored 90 points in a game earlier this year.
This is physical, old school football at its best.
San Benito is 4-1 in its last five games. Both the Balers and Salinas' last loss was to Palma.

Fremont scored 90 against freakin Harker. Harker finished second to last in what is historically the worst league in CCS. And Harker scored 56 in that same game against Fremont. So I wouldn't read much into that performance.

Since they last played each other on October 5, both teams won four games that they should have won...Holister beat Gilroy, Christopher, Alvarez and Alisal...Salinas beat North Salinas, Christopher, Alvarez and Fremont.

Since October 5, both teams lost to Monterey and Palma. Monterey/Palma scored 70 total against Salinas and 59 against Holister. Salinas scored 42 against Monterey/Palma but Holister only scored 21 against Monterey/Palma. Slight edge to Salinas.

The calpreps computer has Salinas slightly favored over Holister. I tend to agree that Salinas will win.
