CCS Division I playoffs
Fremont (8-2) at Salinas (6-4), Friday, 7 p.m.
The Firebirds set a CCS single game scoring record this fall with 90 points in a win over Harker on Oct. 26. Of course, they also gave up 58 points in that game.
Still Fremont is a formidable opponent, having beaten Homestead 33-32 two weeks after Homestead beat Salinas by a field goal.
Fremont is riding into the playoffs on a five-game winning streak, gaining a share of the El Camino Division title with Gunn and Monta Vista.
Keenan Smith has 1,450 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns for the Firebirds this year. He also has 13 catches for 273 yards and five receiving touchdowns.
The Cowboys are in the playoffs for the fifth straight year, having reached the Division I semifinals the last four years.
Two of Salinas' losses are to league champions in the Open Division playoffs. The other is to the top seed in Division III in Monterey.
While Everett Ball is over 1,000 yards rushing, Jordan Torres and Julian Wilcox provide a different dimension in the backfield. And Jackson Duda and Jon Santos don't drop passes.
