Penalizing pros

 Here's a thought.
 Since it's obvious that fines and even suspensions don't bother professional athletes, how about docking the team points during a game for a dubious act.
 Imagine taking three points off the scoreboard in football for a second unsportsmanlike penalty, or two points off the scoreboard for a second technical in basketball.
