Danny Poma

The former Monterey High slugger became the first baseball player from Hofstra University to be named the school's Athlete of the Year.
Poma's name was also added to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List by USA Baseball. The award is given to the top amateur player in the country.
Previous winners have included the Giants Buster Posey in 2008 and Tim Lincecum in 2006.
Poma leads the nation in hits (80), runs scored (60) and doubles (27), and is second in hitting at .449. He also has team highs in stolen bases (25), runs batted in (40) and homers (7).
The senior outfielder is the only player from the Colonial Athletic Association named to the watch list. The Golden Spikes winner will be named on July 6.
