You don't need to use the excuse that the Chieftains have struggled because six players arrived from the CCS Division IV champion football team seven weeks late.
 The Chieftains are 2-3 because they've played two teams that are unbeaten -- one of which is ranked No. 15 in the nation in Mitty.
 It won't get any easier as Palma faces San Francisco Section power Burton tonight as well as 6-1 Soquel and Santa Cruz, who knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
 Then Palma heads to the St. Francis Tournament before opening league play against defending TCAL champion Salinas.
