When Carmel and Palma meet on Dec. 3 for the Division IV title, it will not be the first time two county teams have met for a football championship.
Five years ago Seaside and Pacific Grove battled for a Division IV title, where the Spartans posted a 28-14 win.
But the one title bout that lived up to its billing came in 1989 when Palma and North County both went into the CCS Division II South Zone title game undefeated.
It remained that way after a Brian Maestri interception of a Todd Whitehurst pass ended the game in a 14-14 tie and a co-CCS title.
