The equity leagues in boys and girls water polo have already created a stir. In fact, there was a discussion recently about changes.
For now, defending TCAL boys champion Carmel has been moved along with Salinas, Stevenson and Monterey into what is now called the Tri-County Mountain League.
Joining them is former Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League powers Aptos, Santa Cruz and Soquel. Wouldn't Ocean League have been a better name?
Palma and Alvarez are now in the Tri-County Valley League, where they will have road games in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.
The girls power league is also the Mountain League, where Carmel, Salinas, Stevenson, Gilroy and San Benito will join Santa Cruz, Soquel and San Lorenzo Valley.
Monterey, Notre Dame, Alvarez and Santa Catalina are part of the wide-open nine-team Valley League -- for now.
