I thought Alvarez tailback David Perez looked really good running the ball. Remember, this is a kid who was forced to sit out all of last year after the CCS ruled him ineligible for moving.
North Salinas will endure growing pains with 14 sophomores on the roster. But converted tailback Angel Estrada showed explosiveness to the outside. Last year Estrada was an all-league receiver.
Alisal's strength this fall could be its depth, with 41 players on the roster. Avoiding another slow start was evident in how much intensity it brought to the field.
Will Salinas put the ball in the air more this fall? Matt Leighton was sharp with his reads. But Salinas has a dynamic ground game with a beefed up offensive line.
