The Giants could be close to acquiring the A's Coco Crisp or Tampa's Johnny Damon, who both cleared waivers.
Why not both?
It's not going to cost you a lot.
Crisp gives you a center fielder that's hitting .280 with 37 steals. Damon brings pennant race experience to the clubhouse and clutch hitting.
And outfield of Damon in left, Crisp in center and Carlos Beltran in right is respectable.
Of course, it would constitute releasing two players on the 40-man roster. Goodbye Mark DeRosa and your .180 batting average. It's time to cut ties with Pat Burrell. He can't help you anymore.
Don't waste championship pitching by being stubborn Brian Sabean. This pitching staff doesn't need a lot of run support. But it needs some.
