Former NBA lottery pick Tariq Abdul-Wahad was hired today to be an assistant basketball coach for the CSU-Monterey Bay women's basketball team.
The 11th overall pick in the 1997 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings, Abdul-Wahad spent eight years in the NBA, averaging 12.2 points with Orlando in 2000.
One of San Jose State's all-time leaders in points, the former shooting guard has never coached at the collegiate level.
Last year the Otters set a school record for wins in capturing the CCAA title and reaching the NCAA Division II tournament.
