CCS GIRLS TRACK

A season best of 5:04.85 in the 1,600 vaulted Carmel's Melanie Hong into the top five at Saturday's Central Coast Section trials. Anna Welsh also qualified, but the Monterey distance ace will likely drop the event to focus on the 3,200, where she is the CCS leader.
King City sophomore Jessica Davis used a big personal record to qualify for the finals in the 100 hurdles (15.69). She's also headed to next Friday's finals at Gilroy in the high jump (5-2).
Mikaela Welton became the first Stevenson athlete to qualify for the CCS finals in the 300 low hurdles (47.60) since Kelli Okuji won the CCS 300 low hurdles title five years ago.
Seaside sophomore Jayla Scholis moved on in the 100 meters (12.64) as did teammate Eva Joachin in the discus (107-3).
Nina Anderson's bid to return to the state meet in the 3,200 is alive after the Notre Dame junior qualified in 11:12.99. Salinas' Tenney Shaffer extended her season in the pole vault (10-6).
