During a six-game winning streak, no defense was playing better as the Mustangs created 25 turnovers — 23 of which were interceptions.
It seemed each time King City needed to make a play, the defense rose to the occasion, particularly in three come-from-behind wins.
But a stingy unit faded in the final two games, allowing 99 points to playoff-bound Carmel and Greenfield. Still, no one projected six wins when the season started for a team in a retooling mood.
