How long has it been since Carmel won a league water polo title?
Well for starters, there was no Tri-County Athletic League 30 years ago.
Carmel head coach Aaron Gailey wasn't in high school.
The Raiders were in Los Angeles, the Sharks didn't exist, a World Series ticket cost $20 instead of $500.
And the 49ers were debating whether Steve DeBerg should start over some third round draft choice named Joe Montana.
The Padres earned this title, beating three-time TCAL champion Salinas, not once, but twice to end three decades of frustration.
Hopefully it's enough to earn a home playoff game.
