Last year at this time, Carmel quarterback Devin Pearson was 150-for-206. Entering Saturday's CCS playoff opener, the junior has completed 150 of 207 attempts.
Teammate Jimmy Osornio has rushed for 21 touchdowns on just 90 carries.
John Devine has been writing about high school sports in Monterey County since, well, practically since he was an athlete at King City in the days just after leather helmets. In PrepNation, John has even more in-depth analysis of the latest results and news he's brought to you in The Herald and in his weekly videos.

Fun coincidence with Devin's passing numbers.
Here is what you find when you look a little deeper. And don't forget that Devin is a junior this year.
Through 10 games in 2010
150 for 207 = 72.5% completion percentage
2,267 passing yards = 226.7 yards per game
21 TD's passing and just 3 interceptions
61 carries for 633 yards = 10.4 yards per carry
5 rushing TD's
Through 12 games in 2009
150 for 206 = 72.8% completion percentage
2,442 yards passing = 203.5 yards per game
31 TD's passing and just 3 interceptions
67 carries for 496 yards = 7.4 yards per carry
5 rushing TD's
Name a quarterback from this area who has attempted 413 passes in two yards and completed 72.6% of them?
Or a quarterback who has thrown the ball 413 times and only had it intercepted 6 times?
Or a quarterback with 1,129 yards rushing in less than 2 full seasons?
Those are impressive numbers.
Now some will argue that Devin has done this in the MTAL and not the TCAL. But don't forget that Devin has "MTAL players surrounding him. He has "MTAL' caliber receivers trying to get open and to catch the ball. He has "MTAL" caliber linemen blocking for him.
Perhpas if Devin played for Palma or Valley Christian his numbers would be even better considering he would have TCAL/WCAL caliber receivers catching the ball and TCAL/WCAL linemen blocking for him.
So let's not hear that he gets these stats just because he plays in the MTAL.
