Sunday morning thoughts

One of the concerns I had for Carmel after its non-league schedule was how it would continue to motivate itself through the Mission Trail Athletic League season.
While it has scored 135 points in three league games, Carmel has not always looked focused or interested in three lopsided wins. On the positive end, it did record its first shutout.

An 0-5 non-conference record is in the rear view mirror for Hartnell College after it opened the conference season with a win over Cabrillo.
The same can be said for Monterey Peninsula College, which is also undefeated in the conference after rolling over winless West Valley.
There is a bowl bid this fall for the Coast Conference champion, regardless of record or ranking. That's extra incentive for MPC, which would host a bowl game if it wins the conference.

CSU-Monterey Bay is still ranked No. 24 in the nation in Division II volleyball. Three of the Otters' four losses this year have come from nationally ranked teams.
