JC football battles

West Valley (1-6) at Hartnell (1-6): Alvin Jelks went over 100 yards rushing in last week's three-point loss to San Jose. Hartnell used two quarterbacks last week with mixed results. Kiero Small is closing in on 100 tackles. Opponents have scored first on Hartnell five times. Yet, it has outscored the opposition 38-36 in the first quarter. After allowing 313 points in six losses to open the season, West Valley shutout Gavilan last week.
Monterey Peninsula (3-4) at Gavilan (0-7): Coming off their first road win of the season, the Lobos are one of two teams still unbeaten in the Coast Conference. With 48 receptions, Bret Chernetsky continues to be among the state leaders. Gerran Gordon has given the Lobos a deep threat to compliment the over the middle routes Chernetsky runs. The Rams have scored just once in the first quarter all year.
