Flying under the radar

Here are eight names -- and I know there are several more -- that you don't always hear about, yet are making huge impacts on their teams.

Felipe Guijarro, Greenfield: One of the fastest players on the team, Guijarro has rushed for 230 yards and two touchdowns, and caught four passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns. He has also converted all 33 of his extra point attempts.
Brandon Pulealli, Palma: We don't talk about linemen a lot. But Palma's dynamic defense starts in the trenches where the 305-pound beast clogs the middle.
Tyler Isbill, Salinas: The running game starts with Isbill pulling on sweeps. Defensively, the defensive tackle has three sacks and an interception.
Manuel Melano, Alvarez: Quietly, the tailback has racked up nearly 600 rushing yards and five touchdowns for the resurgent Eagles.
Richie Casas, North County: The heart of the Condors' offensive line, the 270-pound Casas also starts as a defensive tackle.
Jacob Holcomb, King City: All six of Holcomb's touchdowns this year have come in the last two games. He's also intercepted four passes on the season.
Christian Rosa, Stevenson: He's not flashy, but the 6-foot-2 Rosa has 25 catches for nearly 400 yards and three touchdowns for the Pirates.
Shawn Katoa, Monterey: Another one of the prized sophomores this season in Monterey County, the linebacker is among the team leaders in tackles.
