York School began the season ranked No. 2 in Division V in the CIF State rankings, produced by ESPN RISE/DyeStatCal.
The fab five from last years state qualifying team are back for York, including distance ace James Palaniuk. York has won three of the last five Central Coast Section Division V team titles.
Woodcrest Christian of Riverside is ranked No. 1 in Division V.
Where I question these rankings is in Division IV, where Stevenson earned a No. 7 ranking. Yet, defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Carmel was left out of the top 10.
Stevenson is also ranked No. 12 overall in the CCS. Carmel, who is undefeated in dual meets this year, is not ranked.
Of course, the Pirates are the defending CCS Division IV champions and did beat Carmel in the MTAL Center Meet on Thursday.
Perhaps someone is doing their homework.
