Salinas
For two years, Alvin Jelks compiled more than 60 percent of the Cowboys offense. Replacing over 1,700 rushing yards this season will be by committee.
Which means opponents can't focus in on one individual.
The good news is Salinas has one of the more athletic quarterbacks in the Tri-County Athletic League in Junior Cortez. And Myles Coleman has waited two years to get a shot to run the ball.
Two years ago as a sophomore, he racked up 85 yards in a playoff loss to Wilcox.
Over 70 players showed up for the first practice, including linebacker Christian Padilla, who led the team in sacks and compiled nearly 100 tackles.
On the Cowboys schedule this year are six teams that reached the playoffs last fall, including Thursday's season opener against southern section power Atascadero.
Depending on how well 40 plus new faces develop, Salinas is one of four teams capable of winning the TCAL title. With the foundation now set in coach Steve Goodbody's fourth year, I don't see them slipping back into the pack.
