Prep football series XIII

Monterey

What hurt Monterey last year was the inability to settle on one quarterback. Four different quarterbacks, all with different styles, took turns running the offense.
Barring injuries, don't expect Monterey second year coach Tom Newton to duplicate the feat. It won't hurt having two dynamic running backs for a full season this fall.
After coming up a half-yard short in the final seconds of making the playoffs for a sixth straight year last fall, the Toreadores have a different mind-set this year, almost a sense of redemption.
Discipline will be the key for Monterey to challenge Seaside for supremacy in the Monterey Bay League. Too often last year Monterey made mental mistakes in critical situations.
Change one play in three games last year and the Toredores have three more wins.
