Prep football series XI

Monte Vista Christian
Anytime your quarterback and leading receivers are back, you've got something to work with. Quarterback Taylor Cohan showed flashes last season as a sophomore, throwing just five interceptions in 114 attempts.
Look for Monte Vista to turn him loose this fall and let him air it out. What is critical for the Mustangs is protecting Cohan and making teams respect the running game.
Monte Vista's 1-4 Monterey Bay League record last year is misleading. It held CCS Medium School champ Seaside scoreless through three quarters before falling 10-0, and dropped a 29-28 decision to Monterey.
Four of its six overall losses came from teams that reached the postseason. If you're looking for a sleeper team in the MBL, the Mustangs could be this year's Watsonville.
