Gonzales
One of the more storied football programs in Monterey County has fallen upon hard times as Gonzales went winless last year. Dating back to 2008, it has dropped 13 straight games.
Turnouts have not been good since Soledad opened its doors 11 years ago. But that didn't keep Gonzales from winning a Mission Trail Athletic League title in 2001 and reaching the playoffs in 2002.
The Spartans need to take baby steps in measuring their success. Last year they were outscored 315-111. Gonzales doesn't have a lot of size, speed or experience.
It's tough to turn a program around when you are struggling to get 20 players to fill out a varsity roster.
