Is there an advantage to playing your home football games on Saturday afternoon?
If you're Carmel, you have to believe there is. The Padres are 15-3 in their last 18 home games.
Just three teams — Carmel, North County and Stevenson — still play home games on Saturday afternoon.
A Saturday date for a Friday night team means an extra day of practice, sun heating up your helmet instead of a cool evening breeze. Mentally, it's completely different. Unless you're used to it, the energy level is missing.
I know one coach that was elated this year because he has no Saturday games.
Ask any coach whose teams play on Friday night, and he will tell you the one game that concerns him is the rare Saturday afternoon special.
