Christmas came a little early for Alvarez football coach Ralph Ward with the return of running back David Perez, who moved away after last season, but has since moved back to Salinas.
Last year Perez was called up from the junior varsity as a sophomore and rushed for 680 yards in just five games, including a Monterey County record 353 yard effort against North Salinas.
Four of his eight touchdowns were of 40 yards or longer.
