Nearly 1,500 baseball players were selected in Major League Baseball's three-day amateur draft.
Not one high school selection came from Monterey County. But Cal junior pitcher Michael Bugary was selected in the 15th round by the Boston Red Sox.
Bugary was one of the more powerful hitters in Monterey County history at Monterey High.
Last year Hartnell pitcher Skyler Crawford was drafted and signed by the Florida Marlins while Pacific Grove slugger Abe Ruiz was drafted in the late rounds by the Giants. Ruiz is playing for Arizona State this year.
Even if there are 50 rounds and 1,500 players chosen, getting drafted is an honor.
