So what did we learn about Friday's early season showdown between Monterey and Carmel?
Depends on who you ask.
Monterey coach Greg Daniels reminded his players the moment was not to big when down by 10 at halftime and they responded.
Carmel coach Kurt Grahl called it a teaching moment for a program that hasn't been involved in a lot of tight games on the road.
The Padres weren't intimidated going into Monterey. Grahl liked the execution and effort. No doubt he felt like this game slipped away.
Now, how does Carmel respond? There isn't a lot of time to dwell on the defeat as it will host Palma on Monday.
I'm not sure Monterey wins this game if the moment was last year. Clearly, the experience of having four three year starters showed up in how it handled the pressure of playing from behind.
The beauty in this is we get to see these teams face each other one more time on Feb. 5.
