The 32-year-old Smith is one of 32 players nominated for the honor, which annually recognizes NFL players, coaches and personnel who demonstrate a commitment to honoring and supporting military.
Finalists for the award, presented by USAA, will be announced at the NFL Honors award show on Feb. 2.
Smith grew up in a military household, as his father was a member of the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division. His grandfather served in the Navy during World War II, and his brother earned a Purple Heart.
Smith served as the honorary speaker at the General H Norman Schwarzkopf Military Family of the Year Awards.
An undrafted free agent out of Idaho State in 2009, Smith spent five seasons in Green Bay, earning a Super Bowl ring, before signing with Tampa Bay in 2014.
