One that wasn't touched -- at least in girls basketball -- was Carmel and Pacific Grove, who meet for the second time in 18 days on Wednesday.
The Breakers went on the road and pulled out a 39-35 win at Carmel. Yet, their promising 2-0 start in the Cypress Division has been interrupted by a three-game losing streak.
Winners of three of their last four, the Padres still have title hopes flickering in their heads, sitting two games behind undefeated St. Francis.
Carmel has arguably the best two-way player in the Cypress in four-year starter Soana Laulotu, who is dropping in double-doubles on a nightly basis.
With teams doubling and sometimes tripling down on Laulotu, help has come of late from Ashley Langley and Chloe Bernal.
Pacific Grove will need a strong second half in the Cypress Division to make a postseason run. That starts with Wendy Porzig, who has caught fire of late from the field.
Sisters Lyndsey and Parker Llantero have been consistent all season while Tati Ruiz has produced a pair of double-doubles in the teams last three games.
