Trinity boys basketball

Trinity (4-19, 1-13)
Jumping from the old Coastal Athletic League to the Mission Trail Athletic League last season was a risk that didn't work out.
Expectations from the previous regime were miscalculated as Trinity went from sharing a league title in 2107 in the CAL to finishing with just one win in the MTAL, going 4-19 overall last winter.
The Warriors will be in the Arroyo Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League this season, where contending for supremacy is realistic.
"We have a versatile team that can play extremely well on both the offensive and defensive side of the court," first year Trinity coach Renaldo Wright said.
Wright has four returning players that will have significant roles this season, starting with 6-feet-4 Cameron Hill, who was named to the MTAL all-defensive team last year.
Hill, a starter since his sophomore year, will have a presence in the paint, and can knock down shots from the perimeter.
"Everyone on this team fills a different role," Wright said. "We believe all of our players are going to make a big impact and get quality playing time."
That includes sharpshooter Chase Perez, whose older brother was a two-time all-leaguer and former school record holder for points in 2013.
Perez will also run the point along with Caleb Wong. The pair will form a dynamic guard tandem, while Ryan Smith gives Trinity another option on the floor.
"I am beyond thrilled that the school offered me the opportunity to coach, mentor and be a positive role model for these young men," Wright said.
The Warriors were simply overmatched last year in a bigger league, with 16 of their losses being by 12 or more points, closing the season with 10 straight losses.
Trinity finds itself in a league with former rivals York, Anzar and Pacific Collegiate, and a cast of new schools with programs.
Prior to the move last season, the Warriors had gone 22-2 in the CAL, and 8-1 against teams now in the Arroyo Division.
