Last year was the first time that Alisal won Solis-Miles Memorial Tournament, which begins tonight. The year before it was beaten by Sequoia, and in 2015 it lost to Christopher.
That being said, the Trojans are the deepest team in the eight-team field, as five players brought up as freshmen four years ago are now seniors, including Josue Gil-Silva.
What makes Alisal scary is the reigning co-Gabilan Division Player of the Year may not even be the best player on his roster this year with development of Sebastian Reynoso.
The 6-foot-9 Reynoso will patrol the paint and command double teams, freeing up Gil-Silva and Vincent Gonzalez on the outside.
The tournament will also feature defending Pacific Division champion Seaside and reigning Coastal Athletic League champion Gonzales.
Pablo Villasenor, who just arrived from the Gonzales football team, was a double-double machine last year while Isaiah Banuelos earned all-league honors.
Former league rivals Christopher and San Benito are a part of the tournament along with Stevenson, Scotts Valley and Soledad, who went to the CCS Division III semifinals last year.
