Tuesday's match
No. 12 Salinas (29-6) at No. 5 Lowell, San Francisco (25-7), 7 p.m.
Both programs are looking for fresh starts after falling in their respective section championships.Ironically both teams have losses to Central Coast Section Division I champion Homestead, with the Cardinals falling in a tournament 15 days ago.
Salinas ran into a buzzsaw against Homestead in the section finals, having been swept for the first time all year.
Having won 22 of their last 24 matches, the Cowboys are one win away from setting a new single season school record for wins.
The Cardinals went 8-4 this year against opponents from the CCS -- 17-3 in their own section.
Despite missing six matches with a concussion, setter Jennifer Foley is closing in on 1,000 assists for Salinas.
The senior has spread the ball around the court this year with Savanna Maker, Christina Chagnon, Kylee Moore and Ashleigh Souza all having compiled over 200 kills.
The 6-foot-4 Maker has been a disruptive force in the front row on defense as well, while Kaila Uota and Julie Foley both have over 500 digs on the season for Salinas.
This is Salinas' first appearance in the State Northern California tournament since 2009 -- the year it went to the State Division I finals.
