Monterey County the hub for sports

It's not just high school football that will engulf Monterey County this weekend.
The second round of the NCAA women's soccer tournament was moved Friday from host Stanford University to Rabobank, where Hofstra, Ole Miss, Wisconsin and the Cardinal are in town.
It's possible that Sunday's scheduled games will also be played at Rabobank, as the conditions in the bay area remain unhealthy because of the smoke from the Northern California fires.
The poor air quality is also effecting teams that play indoors as the University of San Francisco will play its women's and men's basketball games at CSU-Monterey Bay on Sunday.
The women will face Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo at 2 p.m., while the men will play LIU Brooklyn at 5 p.m.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for Palma grad and two-time Herald Most Valuable Player Jamaree Bouyea, whose family lives in Seaside.
Bouyea's older brother played basketball at CSUMB.
The Central Coast Section cross country championships were moved Thursday from Crystal Springs in Belmont to Toro Park, with the first race slated for 10 a.m. on Sunday.
With the state meet two days after Thanksgiving, this was likely the final day they could get this race in for qualifying purposes.
Alisal, Alvarez, Pacific Grove and Salinas High will be the home sites for three CCS playoff football games on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. Watsonville is also hosting three games.
The only county team in action will be Soledad, who will face undefeated Independence at 1 p.m. at Pacific Grove.
UC Davis and Sacramento State had inquired about playing their annual rivalry game on Saturday at Rabobank, but settled on the University of Nevada.
