The greatest season in Hartnell College women's cross country history ended with an historical finish Saturday at the state championships.
The Panthers recorded the highest finish ever in the programs illustrious history, placing second to LA Harbor at Woodward Park in Fresno.
The Panthers, who fell 72-98 to LA Harbor, were the only program in Northern California to finish among the top 10.
Northern California champion Monica Ruelas was the highest finisher for the Panthers, taking sixth in 18:34.0, a stride in front of freshman teammate Daniela Salazar (18:34.9).
Both earned All-American honors for finishing in the top 14.
Three other Panthers dipped under 20 minutes on the 5K course, with Arlene Diaz Leal finishing 19th (19:04.8). Salinas grad Isabelle Torres ran 19:40.0 while Maria Aceves clocked 19:51.0.
Rounding out the Panthers significant seven were Nina Arias and Nerina Campos.
Two weeks ago Hartnell compiled the lowest score ever for a Northern California championship with 19 points.
The men placed 11th overall with Jacob Niles clocking the fastest time for Hartnell, running 21:34.
MPC distance ace Caleb Llorin-Fernandez earned All-American honors after finishing ninth overall, covering the four-mile loop in 20:41.0.
