CSUMB volleyball

As historic of a season as it has been for the North Division champion Otters, the difference now is a loss could mean turning in uniforms and ending a magical run.
Capturing the programs first conference division title does not ensure a spot in the NCAA Division II Regionals.
The next step in securing a spot begins tonight when the Otters face No. 15 CSU-Los Angeles in the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament at Stanislaus State.
The two teams faced each other just once, with the Eagles posting a four-set decision in Los Angeles back on Sept. 21.
CSUMB, who is making its second tournament appearance at 16-9, is also two wins away from tying the single season school record for wins.
The Otters did stumble down the stretch, dropping three of their final four matches. However, the one win came against No. 14 Cal Poly, Pomona.
All-conference setter Erica Chapa has compiled 860 assists this year, often feeding the ball to the likes of Jeana Tobin and Anela Visesio.
Tobin led the team with 266 kills while Visesio, a Seaside High graduate, finished with 256, giving her 911 for her career.
Ashlynne Armstrong compiled a team high 386 digs and 45 service aces for the Otters while Tobin had 258 and Chapa 253.
CSU-Los Angeles is 21-4 this year and 6-0 on neutral sites. It opened the year with 13 straight wins and 20 of 21.
However, it also dropped three of its last four, including a four set loss to Cal Poly, Pomona.
