High School football: Late game dramatics lift Palma past Aptos

APTOS – Marco Pezzini had an inkling. Yet, when the play went in his direction as the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard, it was all reaction for the Palma High defensive back.

“It happened so fast I didn’t have time to think what the ramifications were,” Pezzini said. “It was a quick toss and I was right there.”

Pezzini locked in and made a game-saving tackle at the 1-yard line as time ran out Friday, propelling Palma to a 40-35 win over previously undefeated Aptos High.

“It was the biggest tackle I’ve ever made,” Pezzini said. “We were all running around the field after the game. Emotions were running high. It was a moment I’ll never forget.”
