New fields at Monterey, Seaside

Monterey High and Seaside High will have new turf and grass fields put in this coming season for their football stadiums.

The Toreadores hope to have their new synthetic turf field -- which will also be used for field hockey and soccer -- installed in time to start practice in August. This will be the schools second turf field.

Seaside’s grass field is being torn out, with new sod slated to be laid down in August. However, with the season starting a week earlier this fall, it’s unlikely the facility will be ready for its home opener against Monterey. The game will be moved to MPC.

With a recent bond passing, Seaside is slated to get a new turf field and all-weather track in the next two years. That will leave Gonzales High as the only school in Monterey County without an all-weather track.
