The decision to add a third division for volleyball means three eight team brackets this spring instead of two 12 team divisions for the postseason
With enrollments deciding placement in the three divisions, Carmel was seeded No. 1 in Division III at 27-3 and will host No. 8 seed St. Ignatius of San Francisco Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Padres path to a section title could be labeled a redemption tour, as they have the potential to face Pacific Collegiate, who beat them earlier this year and in last year's Division II quarterfinals.
Monterey was seeded No. 7 in Division III and will visit 2013 CCS Division II champion and No. 2 seed Mt. Madonna of Watsonville.
Gabilan Division runner-up Salinas was seeded No. 6 in Division I and will visit Menlo-Atherton, who despite a 28-0 record, was seeded only No. 3.
Just one program in Monterey County has ever played for a volleyball title, and that was Monterey in 1997, where it fell to WCAL power Bellarmine.
