Pacific Collegiate-Carmel volleyball

Central Coast Section Division III semifinals
Thursday's match
No. 5 Pacific Collegiate (16-8) at No. 1 Carmel (28-3), 7 p.m.
You gotta think the Padres wanted this. Of their three losses this spring in a record breaking season, one was administered by Pacific Collegiate.
This is also the same Pumas program that knocked Carmel from the Central Coast Section Division II semifinals last year en route to a section title.
So yes, there's incentive for Carmel, who finds Pacific Collegiate in its path in the semifinals for the second straight year -- this time in Division III.
The Padres come into the match riding a school record 21 game winning streak -- in which 19 of the wins have been by sweeps, including Tuesday's playoff opening win over St. Ignatius.
Ironically, Pacific Collegiate swept Carmel in its season opener back on Feb. 27. In fact it has beaten them in the teams last three meetings.
Charlie DeLapa continues to ignite the Padres offense, adding to his 500 plus assists this spring with 31 in the sweep over St. Ignatius.
Keegan Forrester and Cole Dickman fed off of DeLapa's sets while the Padres defense set the tone in the back row.
Carmel has already gained a measure of redemption against one of the teams it fell to this year when it swept Aptos in a tournament title match last month.
Aptos beat Pacific Collegiate for the SCCAL tournament finals five days ago.
